Schwerpunkte

The support of research at all academic levels, both internal and external to ETH, is a core task of the gta Archive. The gta Archives participates in the production of knowledge with own contributions based on archival sources, as well as within the framework of research collaborations. We operate on a principle of openness and public access, and offer the assistance of experienced scientific staff. The numerous services for research, exhibition, and publication are highlighted here. Access to the archive holdings is facilitated by online access to our catalogue.

Our Bequests and Collections are mostly monographic. Our database is therefore searchable by places and personal names and only to a limited extent thematically. We invite prospective researchers to envisage possible research projects by using their research interests to cut across collections and create thematic links between the individual estates. Many of the individual collections, especially those of architects, critics and theorists who taught or corresponded widely, offer expanded scope for research of international and intra-disciplinary scope. Similarly, the extensive corpus of architectural photography offers the possibility of tracing different connections between built and printed material. Such cross-readings of the archive help highlight the operativity of professional networks in the formation and dissemination of architectural and other types of knowledge, across time and geographies.
