The gta Archive’s mission is the stewardship of collective knowledge and culture related to the built environment. Its activities are focused on the acquisition, conservation, and dissemination of artefacts, materials, and documents recording architecture, urban design, structural engineering, and other spatial practices in Switzerland and abroad. The gta Archive reflects the gta Institute’s stated mission to “address architecture in all its historical depth and ideological breadth, and to systematically reflect upon it”. Through its collections and associated activities it strives to expand the disciplinary field beyond a canonical understanding of architecture, and align itself with social values of diversity, equity, accessibility, and sustainability.

The core collection of over 350 archival bequests represents the most significant contributions to Swiss architectural culture over more than 150 years.

Since 1967 the gta Archive upholds to the the Institute's founding principle – to bridge over the counterparts of history and present, theory and practice.
